I was running out of my purples (little G's favorite color), and low on greens and pinks and light blues- so, I put our microwave to work again. Toaster oven, crock pot, microwave- I wonder if there's a crafty way to use a waffle maker? ;)

Purples are so tough and unpredictable with food coloring for some reason- so, I tried Jacquard Acid Dye in Violet this time- it's great! It did play interestingly with the gel colors. I went for a pinky purple by mixing fuschia gel and violet AD, and I ended up with pink and purple tie dye (5th from the top). :) Oh well.

I hate doing pinks because my red and pink gels always clump- so, next time, I'll try some AD. Greens, blues, yellows, and oranges all come out beautifully, though- and browns, grays and blacks usually do, too- with some fun quirks. This is Joann's 80/20 wool blend- I really like it, and buy it a couple yards at a time now (especially when good coupons are out ;).
