The second rainbow- we call it rustic, to be kind. It's made from a little piece from a $5 2x6x8 of SPF- and my other new friend, the band saw. - RusticRainbow-2

My wing-it version of the amazing Kinderkram castle blocks. The blade in my bandsaw couldn't handle the arcs in the castle on the real set (the red arc is all that's left of my first attempt), so I made a set of doors and a flat piece (behind the doors) that's sort of a drawbridge. I may go back and re-drill the "wheel" (well) if I get a larger diameter forstner bit. Not sure I'll attempt the people- the kids don't seem to miss them. Will be easy to add onto this set as we go- they all have similar dimensions, so they stack nicely. I chose to give them a pretty minimal finish (one coat of watered down acrylic, super fine sanding, and a beeswax/oil finish) so they match the rainbow stacker- and I figure it wasn't worth it to fight the knotty/bumpy/grainy/ nature of the uber cheap 2x6 "dimensional lumber" with a more polished finish. Bonus? The damage that's sure to come, is already disguised. ;) www.28feet.com/2012/12/12/the-blocks/ - RainbowBlocksFlat

www.28feet.com/2013/03/15/my-favorite-color-is-all-of-them/ Half of my take on Land of Nod's Grimm's It Makes a Village set. The inspiration set is gorgeous, and easily worth the $199 price tag. Band saw for most of the straight sides, and my scroll saw for all those tight arches. This set is supposed to have wonky curves and lopsided arches, so it was really fun to make. :) - VillageBlocksAddition1Flat
